Gubernatorial Candidate Pushes For Payday Loan Restrictions

Missouri gubernatorial candidate Jay Nixon, continues his push for proposed payday loan restrictions.
Nixon believes Missouri's payday loan laws are some of the most lenient in the country and is supporting
the additional restriction contain in this legislation.
If past, the legislation would cap the rate a payday lender can charge to 36 percent and eliminate the
debt trap caused by borrowers renewing their loans.
This continues Missouri's push toward stricter payday loanding regulations.
Kansas City voters have already approved a $1000 annual fee for Payday Loan lenders. The new fee is expected
to raise $110,000 and allow the city the hire 2 code enforcement officials.
In September 2007, the Kansas City
Council imposed new restrictions on payday loan providers, putting restrictions on building appearance
and limitations on location.
